Every year hundreds of visitors from all around the world journey to E Hayes and Sons' Invercargill store for one reason - to see a remarkable vintage motorcycle with their own eyes and stand in the presence of a legend.
It’s a legend that tells a story of passion and determination to develop a motorcycle to its full potential - beyond what would even seem possible. It’s the story of ‘The World’s Fastest Indian’. The legend of Burt Munro.
Today, Burt Munro's original World's Fastest Indian Scout forms the centerpiece of a unique display of over one hundred classic, vintage and modern motorcycles, automobiles, engines, equipment and memorabilia that makes up the E Hayes Motorworks Collection of classic and vintage motor vehicles.
What's even more remarkable is where you'll find these incredible exhibits. While similar types of displays are housed in museums, you'll find the E Hayes Motorworks Collection spread throughout one of New Zealand's largest and most extensive, independently owned hardware stores. Browse at your leisure through our many shop departments and enjoy classic motorcycles and cars sitting side-by-side products such as powertools, lawnmowers, camping equipment, kitchen appliances and much, much more. It's an experience that gives a whole new meaning to "retail therapy"!
We welcome you to view any display in the collection which is FREE-TO-VIEW normal shop trading hours as well as enjoy a complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate or water. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff are always on hand to answer any questions you may have.
No visit to Invercargill is complete without stopping by our store to see the E Hayes Motorworks Collection. Motorcycles and engines and memorabilia - It's a range that is always expanding as new and interesting pieces are constantly being added. Come and experience the legend of Burt Munro and the rest of our remarkable machines for yourself.
